Leasing Commercial Aircraft

C onsidering leasing an aircraft for commercial airline operations? Whether you are considering a turboprop, a regional jet or large airliners, before approaching any lessor, there are a number of issues that need to be addressed. For all commercial leases, answers to the following questions will be required in order for your lease request to be considered by any potential lessor:

1. What financial backing will there be for the lease?
2. When is the aircraft needed and for what length of time?
3. Are you seeking a passenger or cargo aircraft?
4. How long has the company been in business and what other aircraft does it operate?
5. What routing will the aircraft fly?
6. Where will the aircraft be maintained?
7. In what country will the aircraft be registered?

In addition, full financial data, for the company and/or the guarantor of the lease, as well as a
business plan, including projections for the operation will be required. Lessors make a point of understanding the operating environment of the aircraft in their portfolio. Providing a clear picture of the airline's financial status and plans can give the lessor the confidence needed for successful approval of the lease and can significantly affect the lease rate and terms that are offered.

Should the air carrier not have a business and financial plan prepared, hiring a qualified aviation consultant to assist in preparing the necessary documentation is highly recommended.
